Hurrah for Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank for his clear-eyed exposure of Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s outrageous and hysterical lies about our immigration issue: “Arizona leaders’ border talk needs truth.”
Now the whole nation can see what’s REALLY happening here.
The Arizona Republic has done a good job trying to debunk the wild claims Brewer makes; I’ve blogged on this issue before, wondering if she is so dumb she believes this junk. Apparently, she’s not only that dumb, she’s even dumber: She’s now claiming “beheaded” bodies have been found in the desert, spreading the impression that illegals are beheading American citizens. It just isn’t true. As Milbank said, “there’s not a follicle of evidence to support Brewer’s claim.”
He suggests she has “lost her head,” and urges she “screw her head back on and start telling Americans the truth.”
P.S. Please start telling the truth in good English, Governor. It is not proper to say, as you did recently on Fox News, that the Obama administration is negligent because “They haven’t did their job.”
The importance about all of this is to show that the draconian measures of SB1070 are not based on fact, but on an ideological bent that seeks only to deport, deport, deport. The bill does NOTHING to secure the border, but it has put a target on the back of every undocumented worker in this country and has terrorized thousands of families. That’s not my America. And I hope I can soon say–come November–that Jan Brewer is not my governor.
Thank you for writing about this. It is very depressing that the journalists in this state have been the ones to show courage on this issue instead of the Democratic leadership. Shame on Terry Goddard for his public spanking of Raul Grijalva. Rep Grijalva is the only one to show brevity and integrity regarding the lies and fear mongering of Brewer and others.
