Anybody who still is so naiive they think just a “kook” Republican here and there are extreme in their ideas on rape, I’ve got a piece of frightening information: Republicans have 28 new U.S. Senate contenders this year, and at least a dozen of them are on record saying women who get pregnant from a rape should be forced to have the baby. They do not support an abortion exception for rape–some think a pregnancy under those circumstances is what “God intended to happen.”
Is this what the women of America really want? They want the government to decide what happens to their bodies? They’re not trusted to make deicisons on their own bodies? I don’t think so. And it’s a good reason why Republican candidates are so frightening this year.
Here’s the 12 Republican Senate contenders who think a rape-induced pregnancy is just fine:
–Rick Berg of North Dakota
–Michael Baumgartner of Washington State
–Pete Hoekstra of Michigan
–Josh Mandel of Ohio
–Deb Fischer of Nebraska
–Ted Cruz of Texas
–John MacGovern of Vermont
–Wendy Long of New York
–John Raese of West Virginia
–Richard Mourdock of Indiana
–Tom Smith of Pennsylvania
–Todd Atkin of Missouri
I’m going to carry this list on election night and hope to see every single one of them go down to defeat!
Depending on which statistics are used, somewhere between 35,000 to 40,000 thousand women are impregnated by rape yearly. I don’t know how many of these are aborted or how many go unreported. I do know that each of these women go through Hell no matter what decision they make. To force a woman to make a decision one way or another, against her wishes, is unconscionable. The brutal insult of a rape added to a forced decision will affect a woman’s psychological well-being for the rest of her life. It is PTSD and is seldom treated or even recognized.
