It’s a new day in Arizona and here’s the new motto: We Aren’t Extremists and We Don’t Play Dirty Pool.
That’s what voters in District 18 yesterday when they made national news by recalling Russell Pearce–the nation’s first sitting Senate President and Arizona’s first legislator to be thrown out of office in a recall.
The recall was launched because of Pearce’s extremism on immigration—he didn’t care if he was tearing apart families; if he was hurting people who had been law-abiding taxpayers here for decades; if he was heartless and ruthless and boasted about being mean; all he cared about was getting undocumented Mexicans out of Arizona. His reign of terror started dying last year when lawmakers—his Republican party controls both houses of the legislature—rejected his continued campaign to make Arizona the racism capital of America.
But that’s not all that sunk him. I find it delicious that another big factor in his losing was the phony campaign of Olivia Cortes—the fake candidate who got on the ballot with the help of Pearce’s people, including his Tea Party chairman pal, in hopes she’d draw votes away from his major opponent and help Pearce win. Everyone saw that for the dirty pool it was. It not only was fatal to Pearce, but an ugly disgrace for the Tea Party.
Yes, this is a new day in Arizona and I want to thank the voters of District 18 for giving us this new chance to show who we really are. We Aren’t Extremists and We Don’t Play Dirty Pool.
