We’re watching voting lines in Florida and Ohio and hearing citizens screaming “Let us Vote, Let us Vote,” and I’m watching the Republican leadership in those states turning a deaf ear. They’re closing polling places after folks have stood in line for hours. They’re refusing to expand voting hours or voting locales.
What we’re seeing is the real terrorist threat to America. You try to prevent an American from voting–the most sacred right of citizenship–and you’re attacking America. How Republicans think they can squelch the vote and get away it it–how dare they strike such terror at the heart of our democracy.
So far, courts have beaten back almost every attempt to prevent people from voting that has been approved by Republican governors and legislators. There has been a systematic campaign across the nation, including Arizona, to make it harder for citizens to vote. It’s designed to intimidate or dissuade mainly Democratic voters.
I say the minute this election is over, Congress should launch an investigation into this horrible act of terror.
