Mitt Romney promises to take a “weed whacker” to environemental regulations. He promises to undo protections that have stood for decades, and freeze any new rules to protect the planet.

His environemental platform would take us so far back that you’d think Teddy Roosevelt–the first Republican environmental president back in the early 1900s–never existed.

A New York Times analysis of his goals on the environment is truly frightening. (October 7, page 17) Romney even wants to rewrite the rules on fuel efficient vehicles–a goal to make us less dependent on foreign oil that is well on its way by America’s auto makers. Writer John M. Broder writes: “For a President Romney to succeed in his pledges would require a significant revision to the Clean Air Act and other landmark enviornmental laws enacted over the past 40 years.”

Romney’s promises also signal that he’s not real clear on the reality of climate change. In his acceptance speach at the Republican National Committee, Broder notes he said “he will reverse the Obama administration’s proposed regulations limiting greenhouse gas emissions from power plants that contribute to climate change.”

I have said in the past that women can’t afford Romney as president because we don’t want a bunch of white men dialing back our lives and our rights to subserviant positions changed when this senior citizen was just a girl. I’ve said that Latinos can’t afford Romney as president because he has no plan for immigration reform and threatens to immediately repeal the Dream Act provisions President Obama has institute. I’ve said that gays can’t afford Romney as president because he opposes any civil rights advances. I’ve said that working men and women can’t afford Romney as president, not only because his tax plan favors the rich and threatens the middle class, but his history at Bain shows he supports outsourcing American jobs and “harvesting” American companies for profits at the expense of employees. And now I add that anyone who cares about this enviornment can’t afford Romney as president because he is no friend to the health of this planet.
